Configure-To-Order is the practice where determining the configuration of the product is part of the ordering process. The product is therefore made after the order was received, entered and validated. Typical Configure-To-Order processes require the product to be modular and the configuration process is menu-driven. Non-menu-driven configuration processes are typically classified as Engineer-to-Order processes.
Configure-To-Order is a MTO process and may be used as a Postponement Strategy. Other postponement strategies include: Assemble-to-Order and Package-to-Order.
