"A message from a party definitely booking forwarding and/or transport services to the party providing those services. The message will contain the conditions under which the sender of the messages requires the services to take place."

Use Cases

• Shipper sends EDIFACT Firm Booking (IFTMBF) to Freight Forwarder or Carrier
• Freight Forwarder or Carrier responds with EDIFACT Booking Confirmation (IFTMBC)
• Shipper sends EDIFACT Instruction (IFTMIN) to Carrier
• Freight Forwarder or Carrier submits EDIFACT Customs Declaration (CUSDEC) or EDIFACT Customs Express Consignment Declaration (CUSEXP) to customs
• Freight Forwarder or Carrier provides multiple EDIFACT Instruction (IFTSTA) updates to Shipper or Consignee
• Freight Forwarder or Carrier submits EDIFACT Arrival Notice (IFTMAN) to Shipper or Consignee
• Freight Forwarder or Carrier submits EDIFACT Instruction Contract Status (IFTMCS) to Shipper

IFTMBF is part of the International Forwarding and Transport Message set (IFTM). The EDI ANSI X12 equivalent is EDI 300 Reservation/Booking Request (Ocean).
