EDIFACT Syntax and Service Report (CONTRL) is the Electronic Syntax and Service Report message (Functional Acknowledgment) in the UN/EDIFACT format.

"CONTRL is a message syntactically acknowledging or rejecting, with error indication, a received interchange, functional group or message. A CONTRL message can be used to:

acknowledge or reject a received interchange, functional group or message and list any errors contained therein, or
indicate only the receipt of an interchange"

The EDI ANSI X12 equivalent is 997.
