The
Universal Product Code (
UPC) or UPC-A is a 12-digit barcode standard used extensively for retail packaging in United States. A
UPC uniquely identifies the product and manufacturer; the EAN is typically printed on a product label or packaging as a bar code.
The UPC-E code is a short version with 8 digits, always starting with a zero.
UPC is a subset of the EAN.
