The ability to perform work or deliver products and services as promised. It includes reliably performing processes with predictable outcomes. Dependability has three dimensions:
- Reliability = The ability to consistently perform a process, create products or deliver services, meeting pre-defined quality or service standards. Consider goods delivered damage and defect free.
- Availability = The ability to perform a process or deliver a product or service on-time, meeting pre-defined on-time completion timelines. Consider goods delivered on-time and in-full.
- Accuracy = The ability to accurately perform a process or deliver a product or service, meeting pre-defined or commonly accepted accuracy standards. Consider error-free contracts, orders and invoices.
Alternative names include: Quality, Reliability and Predictability (the scopes of these may be narrower). Compare also to other performance Attributes: Adaptability, Asset Efficiency, Cost, Responsiveness, Sustainability.
