Stock Keeping Unit is a Term describing the unique identifier of a product (raw material, sub-assembly, finished good, merchandize). Typically this is the most detailed level of the product hierarchy and it is used by most functions in a business.

Alternative names for SKU include: Item Number, Material Number, Part Number

Configurable Products generally require an additional data element to identify the product to ensure the relation to the order is retained throughout the Deliver, Make, and/or Source processes. Package-to-Order Inventory Make-to-Stock
